Welcome

suvcwEmblemWelcome to the Headquarters of General George H. Thomas, Camp #19, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

By the purpose and objects of our Constitution, we pledge ourselves to commemorate our fathers’ deeds; to render loyal service to our Country, and to promote the maintenance of unqualified American citizenship with respect for and honor to the flag.

We meet on the third Tuesday of every month (excluding June, July, August), 6:30 PM, at the Manheim Township Public Library in Overlook Campus, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601. All men, age 14 and over, with interests in the Civil War, are invited to attend. Juniors from age 6 to 13 are also welcome. We occasionally invite speakers to give talks on subjects related to our interests.

Camp Officers: Our Camp leadership consists of our currently elected and appointed officers for the present year, our committees and organization, and also our Past Camp Commanders.

Camp Roll of Honor: Share our humble respect and honor for our ancestors who served to preserve the Union. You will find not only the names but biographies  pictures, and also the regiments and their histories.

Camp History: Maj Gen George H. Thomas Camp #19 of the SUVCW, was originally sponsored by George H. Thomas Post #84 of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Many men from Lancaster served under General Thomas, “The Rock of Chickamauga” for whom we are named.

Events Calender: In addition to our Traditional Memorial Day services that are held annually at the G.A.R. Plot in Lancaster Cemetery, and/or at the Civil War and Spanish-American Memorial Sections of Greenwood Cemetery in Lancaster, PA, our brothers participate in, or attend, many other events in the local area and region throughout the year. An archive of our previous years’ activities contains a collection of print and photography that captures many such events in which we and our associated organizations have participated.

The Battlefield Dispatch: Our monthly newsletter is written and edited by our Signals Officer. In addition to being the Camp’s organizational record, the Dispatch also highlights many of our events and activities, and provides articles of patriotic instruction. Archive copies from prior years are also available for review.
